Sutra Funk is one of the most unique club nights in Amsterdam, and the longest running Asian Underground night, it's still rolling out the coolest and cutting edge, Asian Underground, Eastern and urban fusion music. A night where music and culture interact. This is the sound of the multicultural Europe, 2nd generation expressing their own culture mix through music. This fusionist attitude began in the UK where dj’s and musicians with Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani backgrounds were mixing, twisting and cutting up traditional sounds from their own backgrounds and mixing it with digital dance music, sounds of tabla fused perfectly with the high bpm of drum’n’bass and break beat and Sitar, vocals with more electronic, funky, trip-hop sort of sound.

Sutra Funk is spearheaded by the British-Asian dj Eagle-I living and working in Amsterdam, bringing the vibrant sounds of fusing Asian beats to a broader audience. He is also the resident dj at Sutra Funk. This is the Brit-Dutch connection, his ambition is to bring the UK-Asian music and dj's to Holland and invite Dutch-Asian dj's and musicians to get involved. The night began Jan 2004 at Bitterzoet , a monthly night for a period and then at Pakhuis Wilhelmina, Club-8, Cafe Meander and now at Sugar Factory, Amsterdam.

If you come along to a Sutra Funk party, expect all kinds of genres, from electro, hip-hop, UK garage, house, break-beat, drum&bass, desi and twisted Bollywood music, a positive charged atmosphere and some crazy, crazy dance moves.
